Why Sue Now?

Over the past 10 years, The Board of Trustees have NEVER provided a response to the many concerns voiced by alumni chapters, the National Alumni Association or individuals. They have deemed us as whiny & disgruntled. However, they avoid opportunities at all costs to simply communicate with the alumni body. There is no better time like the present. We must be aggressive in our efforts to protect the legacy of our university before it’s too late.

Is This Suit Against Shaw University?

No. The lawsuit is against Joe Bell and Willie Gary.

 

Will This Suit Cause A Financial Strain On Shaw University?

No. Joe Bell and Willie Gary are bonded . . .which means any costs affiliated with this lawsuit will not come from the university budget.

Why Sue for $70,000 and if Shaw U Alumni & Friends Win, where does that money go?

When filing a federal lawsuit, the MINIMUM you can sue for is 70,000.  We are suing to take care of the legal fees and other associated costs. (click here for full explanation) If we are unsuccessful with the suit, we will give all excess funds raised to Shaw students for scholarship purposes.
